Steven Murphy, a FOCUS Senior Advisor, has 25 years operational experience in the information technology industry incsreasing shareholder value by aligning strategy with channel sales, product development, new media marketing and business development programs, where he led eight major acquisitions, two management buy-outs and a public to private sale.
Mr. Murphy serves on company boards and recently was the interim CEO and Director of Plasmon Inc. where he led the growth and positive cash flow turnaround of the core archive data storage and content management business and subsequent public to private sale of four operating divisions on behalf of the senior equity and debt holders.
Mr. Murphy led the IBM Data Mobility services group in 2007 as a result of IBM’s acquisition of Softek Storage Solutions Inc where he served as CEO and president from 2003 when he led the management buyout from Fujitsu Ltd. During his tenure, he helped Softek become the industry’s recognized leader in data storage software. Prior to Softek’s management buyout, Mr. Murphy was CEO of Fujitsu Software and of its predecessor Amdahl Software. His team was instrumental in consolidating several software divisions into a cohesive $400M portfolio which included application, network and data storage software divisions.
Earlier in his career, Steven held Executive Management positions in enterprise software and service companies such as Maxm (acquired by BMC), Goal Systems (acquired by Legent) and Andersen Consulting.
In addition, he has served as Trustee of Mount Saint Mary’s University and Seminary, a Parent Director for Trinity College and Saint Albans School, past Director of the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) software board, and ObjectStar International acquired by TIBCO.
Steven holds a B.S. in Finance and Accounting from Mount Saint Mary’s University. He has been a national award winner of the Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year. He is married with two children and resides in the Washington DC area.
