Simpson, a FOCUS Managing Director in San
Francisco Bay region of California, has had more than 28
years of transaction experience during his corporate career.
This includes extensive stints as a C-level executive, including
conducting mergers and acquisitions for several software
companies such as BMC Software, Merant Corporation, and Ingres
Corporation. He also founded Analytica Corporation, a software
startup in Silicon Valley during the 1980’s that was
eventually acquired by Borland Software Corp.
Mr. Simpson’s M&A expertise includes driving
corporate growth through multi-million dollar strategic alliances,
acquisitions and divestitures of corporate assets, structuring
creative buyouts, raising equity financing, and negotiating
complex technology deals. This varied experience and executive
capacity at small and large companies ensures his clients
receive highly knowledgeable and informed service from the
point of view of one who has “been there and done that” several
times as a principal as well as an advisor.
Prior to joining FOCUS, Mr. Simpson was President of Onyx
Associates, a regional merger and acquisitions services firm
founded in 2002 and serving private companies between $5M
and $50M in size.
A native of England, he lives in Napa, California. When
not ineffectually hacking at a golf ball he likes to sail,
taste wines and travel.
