| Mark
L. Capaldini, a FOCUS Partner, has been president
of three companies in the specialty publishing, information
services, and database sectors, ranging up to approximately
$50 million in revenue. His career has spanned consumer, business,
professional, and academic markets. He serves FOCUS clients
in government contracting, business services, and the sectors
in which he was an operating executive, emphasizing M&A,
business planning, and corporate strategy.
Formerly Mr. Capaldini was Managing Director at MCG Capital,
a publicly traded middle market specialty finance company
firm in Arlington,VA. At MCG Capital he led the Information
Services (IS) sector, one of four served by MCG. He focused
on business development for debt placement. He also represented
the firm as a speaker at national IS conferences, including
SIIA and NFAIS.
Previously Mr. Capaldini served as President of three companies
in the specialty publishing, information services, and database
sectors. As President & COO at PC Data (Reston, VA) he
quickly broadened the management team and expanded the staff
while annualized revenues doubled to over $10 million. He
also assisted the founder in closing on $5 million in financing.
As President & CEO of Congressional Information Service
(Bethesda, MD), a subsidiary of LEXIS-NEXIS and Reed Elsevier,
he transformed a low-growth operation restoring revenue growth
while maintaining a high double-digit operating margin. While
there he created a unique “mega-consortium” deal
worth over $5 million annually for LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe,
which CIS sold in the academic market. As President of LEGI-SLATE
(Washington, DC), a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company,
he restructured and repositioned the entire company. While
there he created the LEGI-SLATE News Service from scratch,
eventually producing 10,000 proprietary news stories annually.
Mr. Capaldini has served on the Board of Directors for the
Information Industry Association (IIA), the Foundation for
Independent Higher Education (FIHE), and the Yale Alumni Fund.
He was an Executive Vice President at Claritas, the leader
in demographic and precision marketing information services,
where he spent 8 years in a variety of roles, starting as
an Account Executive. Earlier in his career he spent 7 years
at The Washington Post, where he served as Assistant to the
Publisher, Assistant Controller, and Circulation Operations
Director.
Mr. Capaldini is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) and the World Presidents Organization (WPO). He is a former member
of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO). He is a graduate
of Yale University (B.S. Engineering & Applied Science)
and the Harvard Business School (M.B.A. General Management).
